Get your paper mail while you’re on the road. Have it “electronically” forwarded!
If you’ve ever hit the asphalt ocean for any period of time you know how hard it is to keep up with the paper mail while you’re gone. Unfortunately you can’t hitch up your mailman and bring your mail along with you. More often than not the first “welcome” you receive after arriving back at home is a big tub of mail from your local post office.
Of course, the problem with this is that inevitably there’s always a few critical, time sensitive pieces of mail that have been molding away while you were gone along with overdue bills! What to do?
Here’s your answer: Earth Class Mail – RV Mail
Earth Class Mail is a service that, in a nutshell, does the following for you:
- Receives your paper mail at their secure facility
- Let’s you know via email when you receive your mail
- Allows you to scan, shred, recycle, or forward your mail
All through an easy to use web browser interface.
As we’ve found, you rarely need actual paper copies of your mail. We were pretty surprised by this. It’s a very freeing experience. If you do need a copy of a certain piece of mail you can have it forwarded to you on a case by case basis.
We found a great review to share with you of one person’s experience with Earth Class Mail
Iβve been using Earth Class Mail since the beginning of August 2007 for all my business mail and some of our personal mail. At first glance this service seems awesome. The premise of having all your mail go to a secure processing facility to be processed for access at anytime and from anywhere is very appealing to anyone who spends anytime working from a remote location or traveling. Whatβs more, I reasoned, itβs a lot cheaper than using the USPS mail forwarding service…
Right now Earth Class Mail is offering some great coupons
2 months FREE on 2-yr plan – plus $25 Activation Credit (use code: RV-TWOFORTWO)
or
First Month of service FREE plus Waived Activation Fee on 6 Month Membership! (use code: RV-GLOBAL)
Let us know what you think about the service. We think it’s pretty cool and perfect for the avid RV’r as well as anyone who want to keep paper mail from filling up their mailbox.

We looked into this but they didnt have anything that would work for our area… yet.. =) So we have a local po box, and we go check it once a week… when we are unable to get there to it… we can call in and they will check it for us and tell whether there is anything important or junk in there. Things that are important that we cant get to get forwarded to my moms house where we can pick it up. It works for us… and is under $100 for the years service.. =)

One thing to keep in mind with Earth Class Mail is that you rarely, if ever, have to actually get physical copies of the mail. So for most users it won’t matter if there’s a physical box in their area.
My friend Mark has been using this for a few years and he’s always telling me how surprised he is that he doesn’t need 99% of the mail that comes in physical form. He just downloads the scanned pdf they provide him.
Of course, it’s not convenient for receiving packages or magazines but for keeping an eye on the mail that comes in and getting scanned copies within 24 hours it’s very, very effective.
The other nice thing about it is that they handle your mail in a secure environment instead of at the counter of the local UPS/Mailbox rental facility. I’ve seen some people on the web talk about doing that and having it scanned. I’m just not comfortable with that myself.
It is more expensive than your option – and if that works really well for you then that’s great news. Hopefully others will learn from the post and our comments and be able to put together a solution that will allow them to travel freely!
Thanks for your comment!
Very true… half the stuff we get in paper form is junk.. =) I think this is a great way to go if you can do it.. and find it in your area to do….There are many options available. Getting mail is one of the harder parts to figure out when RVing… =)
